EARLY PROFESSIONAL THEATRE

When I was 12 and 13 years old I had the life changing experience of performing in two seasons of Equity summer stock musical theatre. I was in six productions with title roles in four, and got to act, sing and dance with some of the great Broadway and film stars of the time.

These included Jane Kean, who played Trixie Norton on the Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason, film star and matinee idol Tab Hunter, and opera singer & film star Anna Maria Alberghetti.

I got these roles by auditioning, at age 11, for producers Florence and Staney Waren, who first booked me for one season and then asked me back for a second. I was later to find out that Florence Waren (pictured below] was one-half of the most famous dance duo in occupied Paris in the 40's and who performed with Edith Piaf and Maurice Chevalier, ran guns for the French resistance, hid fellow Jews in her apartment, and was herself interned. I am honored to have worked with Florence over two years, and that she and Stanley saw something in this kid.

Unfortunately, these three photos are all that I have from those amazing years of my childhood.
